Original Civil War Lithograph Published by Charles Magnus“Battlefield of Carthage July 5th 1861”This is an ORIGINAL Antique Civil War Lithograph Print. This piece is dates back to the 1800s and was Tilted “Major General Franz Sigel United States Army, Colonel on The Battlefield of Carthage July 5th 1861” This was Published by Charles Magnus (1826-1900) who was a Well Known Printmaker and Illustrator from the Civil War with his works have been Displayed in the National Portrait Gallery in Washington D.C. and The New York Historical Society. This piece Comes in a Beautiful Gilt Carved Frame Under Glass. It was Beautifully done of Museum Size & Quality that measures almost 3 Feet Wide & 2 Feet High depicting a Battle Scene with The Colonel Franz Sigel on Horseback at the Forefront Galloping over a Cannon Fodder on the Battlefield. Sigel is In Full Battle Uniform Beautifully Decorated Soldier even to the Full Decorum of the Horse he rides. He also earned the nickname and was dubbed “The Yankee Dutchman” and books were written about him. The background of the landscape shows A Battlefield of the Civil War where Soldiers are Moving Cannons on one side. Riding Horse Calvary on the Other and Infantry Holding Aim on their rifles while others are Marching. Underneath this Historical Print has a Subtitle Note that states “Entered According to Act of Congress in the Year 1862 by Feodor Fuchs in the Clerks Office of the District Court of the United States of The Southern District of New York”. At the lower right corner of the piece states “Drawing and Litho by F. Fuchs” and at the Bottom of the subtitle states “Published by Charles Magnus, 12 Frankfort Street, New York”. This was done with Great Depth and Dimension to the Details and is Masterfully Meticulous from Each Figures Facial Features and Expressions with their Mannerisms and the Details in the Clothing from the Time Period. It is surrounded on a Beautiful Landscape with Floral Foliage Accented throughout. This is Framed Under Glass in a Nice Gilt Carved Frame. The Lithograph itself is Over 100 Years Old and is a bit wavy from Natural age as shown in the photos. This is a Rare Find from The Historical Subject of the Work as well as its Size & Condition.
