This is a Rare & Original Oil Painting by Soss Efram Melik (1914-2003) who is Renowned 20th Century Portraitist Listed in Many Art Indices throughout the World. His works are in the Permanent Collection of the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC. This is an Original Oil on Canvas Painting of Museum Size & Quality Measuring over 4 feet tall, and depicts a portrait of Governor George Clinton , Dated Circa 1935, based on the iconic John Trumbull portrait. Melik is one of the most revered portrait artists of the 20th Century and this painting was unveiled at New York City Hall in 1935 .
Governor George Clinton was one of the Founding Fathers in American history, serving as New York’s 1st and longest-serving Governor in American history. He served as Vice President under Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, holding the record for the most vice-presidential votes in U.S. history and was part of the first 6 Elections. Clinton was a delegate of the Continental Congress and served as Brigadier General with close ties to George Washington. Trumbull was famous for documenting the Founding Fathers & the American Revolution through his artwork as an effort to record the history of the Nation further solidifying Clinton’s Legacy & Stature.

It comes in a nicely Recessed Solid Mahogany Frame that was chosen to complement its Grandeur. The portrait has minor craquelure, frame rubbing at the bottom and three old repairs adding to its authenticity and historical character and overall is in great condition consistent with its age. It also includes all the provenance records, making this a rare and significant piece of American History.
