Hradil studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under Robin C. Andersen, Herbert Boeckl and Albert Paris Gutersloh. He was also taught by Fernand Leger and discovered his Drawing, and the predilection for Urban Landscapes. During his studies in Vienna and during his stay in Paris, he exchanged letters with his fellow student Hertha Jennewein, later Hertha Jugl-Jennewein. In London, Rudolf Hradil learned all Etching techniques as a fellow of the British Council 1959/1960 and developed a special liking for Engraving with the Drypoint.Inspired by the Bauhaus artist Max Pfeifer Watenphul Rudolf Hradil learned watercolor painting around 1964 and perfected his technique of color lithography. In his pictures there are always details of modern, technical life as well as so-called ‘Civilization Waste’. While Hradil made only Sketches on site and kept the light moods and colors of the respective places in mind, he always finished his pictures in the hotel room or later in his studio. Rudolf Hradil had a special predilection for etching as a synthesis between craftsmanship and Artistic Expression. He printed his papers on his own press and considered the possibility of producing many equivalent copies of a work as an important social aspect. Today, Hradil’s printing press is on display in the Graphic Workshop in the Traklhaus in Salzburg, where scholarship holders of the Scholarship named after him can implement their ideas and works in his own interest. Rudolf Hradil received several awards from the city and province of Salzburg (including the Golden Merit of the Province of Salzburg in 1990, the Golden Medal of the Province of Salzburg in 2005 and the Coat of Arms Medal of the City of Salzburg in 2005) with Many books written about the Artist and his works are displayed in Museums as well as Corporate & Private Collections.
